Sensory exploration is not about producing a correct list. Its value lies in precision and personal language: rough like what, distant in which direction, warm compared with what? Stories can model this slow attention and make the activity feel like an adventure rather than an exercise.

Make a five-sense field card

  1. Draw five simple symbols on a small card.
  2. Add one observation for each safe sense.
  3. Use comparisons instead of single adjectives.
  4. Circle the observation that surprised you.

One question that matters

Should taste be used on nature walks?

Only with clearly identified, adult-approved foods. Never taste wild plants, berries, fungi or unknown materials. Safety comes before completing every sense.
